Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, has emphasized the need for patience with three of his players – Jorrel Hato, Jamie Gittens, and Estevao – insisting they still require time to fully adapt to the demands of the English Premier League.
Maresca made the remarks after Chelsea’s emphatic 5-1 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Friday night. Goals from Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Trevoh Chalobah, and Moises Caicedo secured the win for the Blues, while Lucas Paqueta had earlier given the Hammers a brief lead with a stunning opener.
In his post-match interview, the Italian tactician praised his squad’s overall quality but singled out the trio who are still finding their feet in England.
“Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao, and Jamie Gittens are all fantastic players,” Maresca said.
“You can see that Liam and probably Joao are a little bit more ahead of the rest, but that’s because they were already playing in England. Jamie needs to adapt a little bit, Estevao needs to adapt, and Hato also needs time.”
Despite their adaptation process, Maresca expressed confidence in their potential, stressing that once settled, the youngsters will become key assets for Chelsea.
The dominant win against West Ham continues Chelsea’s strong start under Maresca, with the Blues showing signs of progress both in attack and defense.
