EPL: Gyokeres Explains Goal Celebration After Brace Against Leeds

Arsenal’s new signing, Viktor Gyokeres, has revealed the meaning behind his goal celebration during the Gunners’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday.

The Swedish striker, who joined Arsenal just a few weeks ago, marked his first goal for the club with a cheeky hair-flick gesture in front of the home fans at the Emirates Stadium.

Gyokeres, who scored twice in the game, explained that the celebration was aimed at those who mocked his performance in the season opener against Manchester United.

In that match, the 26-year-old failed to register a single shot and was substituted after 60 minutes in Arsenal’s narrow 1-0 win at Old Trafford. Many critics joked that he touched his hair more than the ball during the game.

Responding to the banter, Gyokeres flicked his hair after scoring his first goal and later doubled his tally from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

“Yeah, it might be. It could be something to do with that,” Gyokeres told Sky Sports when asked about his celebration.

“I’m really happy with the result and, of course, it was very nice to score two goals as well.”

The win means Arsenal have maintained a perfect start to the Premier League campaign and currently sit top of the table.
