Transfer: Gary Lineker Reacts as Arsenal Hijacks Eberechi Eze Deal from Tottenham

Former Barcelona and Tottenham striker, Gary Lineker, has expressed disappointment after Arsenal hijacked Tottenham Hotspur’s £67.5 million move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Eze was initially on the verge of joining Spurs, who had reportedly struck a record-breaking agreement with Palace. However, Arsenal reignited their interest following Kai Havertz’s injury setback and made a late move that saw them successfully land the England international.

The 27-year-old, who was presented with offers from both North London clubs, opted to join the Gunners — a decision influenced by his lifelong support for Arsenal and his past as an academy player at the Emirates.

Reacting to the transfer on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker admitted he was “gutted” to see Eze slip through Tottenham’s grasp.

“Bit of a disaster really for Spurs to lose out. They thought they had their man, but Arsenal have jumped in at the last moment,” Lineker said.

“Significant coup for them. For Spurs fans, it will be hugely disappointing. Hugely talented player, brilliant signing for Arsenal. As a former Spurs man, bit gutted to be perfectly honest.”

The move is seen as a major boost for Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the new campaign, while Tottenham will now have to look elsewhere to strengthen their attack.
