EPL: Arteta reveals Eberechi Eze called him before Arsenal transfer

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has disclosed that Eberechi Eze personally reached out to him before completing his transfer from Crystal Palace to the Emirates Stadium.

Eze, who was officially unveiled to a jubilant Arsenal crowd ahead of the Gunners’ 5-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday, joined the club in a deal worth up to £67.5 million. The 27-year-old has also been handed the iconic No.10 shirt.

The midfielder was initially on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur after Spurs reportedly agreed terms with Crystal Palace. However, Arteta revealed that a decisive phone call from Eze changed the course of events and influenced Arsenal’s board to finalize the signing.

“It is very difficult sometimes because you want to be very open and transparent with the players,” Arteta told beIN Sports when asked about the conversation.

“They have to make decisions in their careers that are very, very important. I am delighted to have him. You can tell how much it means to him and his whole family.”

Eze’s arrival is seen as a major boost for Arsenal’s attacking options as they continue their push for domestic and European glory this season.
