Newcastle United forward, Anthony Gordon, has paid tribute to his former teammate, Alexander Isak, following the Swedish striker’s high-profile move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
Isak, 25, forced his way out of St. James’ Park this summer after Newcastle initially resisted selling him. The striker reportedly went on strike, skipping training sessions until the Magpies eventually sanctioned his record-breaking Premier League transfer to Anfield.
Despite the controversy surrounding the exit, Gordon described Isak as one of the best teammates he has ever played alongside, praising both his footballing ability and his character.
Taking to Instagram, the England international wrote:
“Regardless of the situation and what’s gone on, it’s been a pleasure to play with you. One of the best chemistries I’ve had on the pitch and, more importantly, a great person and teammate. I wish you nothing but the best, brother.”
Gordon and Isak featured together 84 times in black and white, linking up for 10 goals. The duo also played key roles in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph last season, the club’s first major trophy in 70 years.
Isak now begins a new chapter at Liverpool, where he is expected to lead the line under Jurgen Klopp, while Gordon remains at Newcastle as one of the Magpies’ most influential players.
