Transfer update:Renato Veiga Departs Chelsea for Villarreal

Chelsea have confirmed the departure of Portuguese defender Renato Veiga, who has completed a permanent move to Spanish La Liga side Villarreal CF.

The 22-year-old initially joined the Blues from FC Basel in July 2024 and quickly established himself as a versatile option in defense. Veiga made 18 appearances for Chelsea during the first half of the 2024/25 season, performances that earned him his first senior international call-up for Portugal.

In January, Veiga secured a loan switch to Juventus, where he featured 15 times in Serie A, further boosting his reputation with consistent displays. Despite his promising development, Chelsea have now opted to part ways with the young defender as part of their squad restructuring.

Villarreal, who are looking to strengthen their backline ahead of the new La Liga campaign, see Veiga as a key signing for the future. His blend of physicality, composure on the ball, and international experience is expected to bolster the Spanish club’s defensive options.

A statement from Chelsea expressed gratitude to the player:

"We thank Renato for his efforts during his time at Chelsea and wish him well as he begins a new chapter in his career."

For Veiga, the move to Villarreal represents an opportunity to secure regular first-team football in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues. It also offers him the platform to further cement his place in the Portuguese national team setup as he looks ahead to upcoming international competitions.
