Arsenal have missed the Premier League registration deadline for new signing Eberechi Eze, ruling him out of Saturday’s clash against Leeds United.
The Gunners failed to complete the process before the 12:00 pm deadline on Friday, meaning the 27-year-old midfielder will have to wait until August 31 to make his debut, when Mikel Arteta’s side travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.
Arsenal swooped in to hijack Tottenham Hotspur’s move for Eze earlier this week, matching Spurs’ £67.5 million bid to Crystal Palace. The deal was finalized on Thursday after the midfielder was left out of Palace’s Europa Conference League playoff tie against Fredrikstad.
Eze spent Friday at the club’s London Colney training base, undergoing his medical and signing a five-year contract. While supporters will not see him in action just yet, Arsenal are expected to present him to the Emirates Stadium crowd ahead of the Leeds fixture.
For now, fans will have to wait another week to witness the England international in Arsenal colours.
