Ronaldo Still Trophyless as Al-Nassr Fall to Al-Ahli in Saudi Super Cup Final

Cristiano Ronaldo’s wait for silverware with Al-Nassr continues after the club suffered a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to Al-Ahli in the Saudi Super Cup final on Saturday.

The contest, played at a high tempo, ended 2-2 in regulation time before heading into penalties.

Ronaldo had given Al-Nassr the perfect start, calmly converting from the spot to register his 100th goal for the club. However, Franck Kessié drew Al-Ahli level before halftime.

Marcelo Brozović restored Al-Nassr’s lead late in the second half, but Roger Ibañez responded almost immediately to make it 2-2 and force a shootout.

In the decisive moments, Al-Ahli goalkeeper Édouard Mendy produced a vital save from Abdullah Al-Khaibari’s attempt, setting up Wenderson Galeno to slot home the winning kick.

The victory handed Al-Ahli their first Saudi Super Cup title since 2016, while Ronaldo’s search for a major trophy with Al-Nassr goes on.
