Chelsea Cancel Nicolas Jackson’s Loan Move to Bayern After Delap Injury

Chelsea have cancelled Nicolas Jackson’s proposed loan move to Bayern Munich after striker Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury during the Blues’ 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

Jackson, 24, had already arrived in Germany for his medical when the sudden U-turn was communicated to him. The Senegal international was set to complete a temporary switch to the Bundesliga champions but will now remain at Stamford Bridge for the rest of the season.

The decision came after Delap, 22, limped off in the 12th minute clutching his hamstring. Initial assessments suggest the young forward could be sidelined for at least six to eight weeks, leaving manager Enzo Maresca short of attacking options.

The unexpected injury forced Chelsea’s hierarchy to recall Jackson immediately in order to avoid a striker crisis. The player, however, is reported to be frustrated by the abrupt cancellation, having been keen on the move to Bayern for more game time.

Speaking after the match, Maresca admitted he had been uncertain whether Jackson’s deal would go through but stressed that squad depth must take priority.

With Delap facing a spell on the sidelines, Jackson is now expected to play a pivotal role in Chelsea’s attack as the season progresses.
