United States President Donald Trump has officially confirmed the date and venue for the draw of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on Friday from the Oval Office alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump announced that the draw will be held on December 5, 2025, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
“It’s the biggest, probably the biggest event in sports,” Trump said while addressing reporters.
The 2026 tournament will be historic as it will be the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, expanding from the traditional 32. The competition will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, making it the first edition to be staged across three nations.
So far, 13 teams have booked their spots at the tournament: Canada, Mexico, USA, Australia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan, South Korea, Japan, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, and New Zealand.
The World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with matches scheduled across major cities in North America.
