Chelsea are reportedly preparing a £43 million bid for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, according to The Athletic.
Blues manager Enzo Maresca is keen to bolster his midfield options before the transfer window closes and has identified the 22-year-old as a key target.
Discussions have already taken place with Lopez’s representatives, though no formal offer has yet been submitted.
Lopez has become an integral part of Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side, closing in on 100 appearances for the Catalan giants. Last season, he made 46 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists. His contribution in LaLiga included six goals and five assists, helping Barca secure the league title.
This season, the Spanish midfielder featured for 45 minutes in Barcelona’s opening-day victory over Real Mallorca but was an unused substitute in their 3-2 win against Levante at the weekend.
Chelsea are expected to firm up their interest in the coming days as Maresca looks to reinforce his squad ahead of the deadline.
