Alfie Gilchrist Completes Permanent Move from Chelsea to West Brom

Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist has completed a permanent transfer to Championship side West Bromwich Albion, bringing an end to his long journey with the Blues.

Gilchrist, who joined Chelsea’s Academy as an Under-11, rose through the ranks at Cobham and signed his first professional contract in November 2020. That same season, he was named Scholar of the Year and captained the Under-18s to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals, while also featuring regularly for the Under-21s.

His progress earned him a place in the senior squad for Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Manchester United in the penultimate game of the campaign. Gilchrist went on to make 17 first-team appearances the following season, scoring a memorable goal in a victory over Everton.

The 2024/25 season saw the young defender spend a successful loan spell at Sheffield United, where he featured 32 times and played a key role in helping the Blades reach the Championship play-off final.

Chelsea, in a farewell message, expressed gratitude for Gilchrist’s dedication and professionalism throughout his time at the club, wishing him success as he embarks on this new chapter of his career with West Bromwich Albion.
